WVU Doctor of Physical Therapy Qualifications

West Virginia University School of Medicine will accept two ย้ถนสำฦตนูอ๘ students annually into the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Collaborative Early Assurance Program who meet the following requirements. The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with Pre-Physical Therapy concentration contains all required prerequisite courses. Students pursuing another baccalaureate major may need to use elective hours to meet the prerequisite course requirements for admission.

  • Meet the for WVU at the time of admission to ย้ถนสำฦตนูอ๘, in addition to meeting the following criteria
    • High school GPA of 3.50 or higher
    • ACT Math score of 24 or higher or an SAT Math score of 570 or higher
  • Submit the following information to the , in the WVU School of Medicine once you have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours but no more than 90 credits
    • Letter of intent to enter the WVU DPT
    • Official copy of your transcript
    • Initial letter of endorsement from Director of Pre-Allied Health Programs
  • Complete an undergraduate bachelorโ€™s degree, in any major, which includes the prerequisite courses required for admission to WVUโ€™s DPT program
    • Attain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.5
    • Attain an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher in the required prerequisite courses:  BIOL 120, BIOL 121, CHEM 101, CHEM 102, HLTH 230, HLTH 231, MATH 256, PHYS 201, PHYS 202, PSYC 201, and PYSC 250
    • Attain a minimum of โ€œCโ€ in each required prerequisite course
  • Complete a minimum of forty (40) hours of volunteer or work experience under the direction of a licensed physical therapist, with experience from two different practice settings recommended. Hours obtained in any coursework, including EXSC 493, cannot count toward the minimum number.
  • Complete an online for the WVU DPT through the Physical Therapist Central Application System (PTCAS), including all requisite elements. Completed application must be received and verified no later than July 31st of your senior year
  • Submit three letters of recommendation
    • Director of Pre-Allied Health programs
    • Two references from US-licensed physical therapists with whom you have worked in a clinical setting

Students who do not meet the above criteria may still apply to the WVU DPT program and will be considered in relation to other qualified candidates in the general pool.
