A draft design of the special 鶹Ƶ license plate.

GLENVILLE, WV – 鶹Ƶ alumni, friends, employees, and students who reside in West Virginia are now able to submit a preliminary interest application for a special 鶹Ƶ license plate. Preliminary interest applications are being accepted through August 3, 2026.

These plates will be actual specialty license plates created and issued by the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. When the University receives the first 100 preliminary interest applications, final design and production of the license plate will begin. There are no restrictions on the number of special plates you may obtain.

Those interested in submitting a preliminary interest application for a special GSU license plate should visit  to download the form or complete the application and payment process online.

A payment of $91.50 covers the cost of the license plate for the first year (or portion of the first year). For those paying online by credit card, a non-refundable credit card fee of $3.00 will be added making the total $94.50. These plates will expire July 1 of each year and the fee is a flat fee for all applicants and is not prorated. The special plates may only be obtained for Class A vehicles (i.e.: passenger cars and trucks with a gross weight of 10,000 pounds or less).

“I encourage anyone who wants to show their Pioneer pride to submit an interest application for this special license plate,” said Dustin Crutchfield, GSU’s Director of Alumni Relations. “This initial application process is only to determine whether Glenville State has the minimum level of interest to pursue the design and manufacturing of the new license plate through the WV DMV – so I recommend those who are interested to sign up soon in order to meet the initial threshold well in advance of the August 3 deadline.”
